One free account, one licensed machine at a time, and a licence that keeps working through a show even without internet. Here's the whole process, start to finish.
Getting started
A free lmxlighting.com account is all you need to get going. Create one any time at lmxlighting.com/sign-up. From there, activating LMX on a machine takes one of two forms:
Use this when the computer running LMX has internet access.
Use this for an offline show computer, e.g. a laptop that never goes online.
While you work
LMX confirms your licence when it opens, and that's it. It won't interrupt a running show to re-check. If the machine has internet, that check happens quietly in the background. If it doesn't, LMX falls back to the last licence it confirmed, for a while:
Even past that point, LMX gives you one "Continue anyway" the very first time it happens, so a show is never cut off by a licence check. Reconnect once, and the clock resets.
Frequently asked
Not for the demo - it runs with no account and no licence key. Using LMX in production (Pro) needs a free lmxlighting.com account and an active licence before it will open. Signing up takes a minute and doesn't cost anything during the beta.
One at a time, by default. You can move to a different computer whenever you like (see below). You just can't have two machines licensed at once.
Just activate LMX on the new machine the normal way. Since you're already at your one-machine limit, LMX will ask "This will deactivate your other device. Continue?" Confirm it, and the new machine takes over. Your old machine keeps running until you next open it there, at which point it will ask to be activated again.
You can switch back to a machine you've already activated before at any time. What's limited is bringing in a brand-new, never-seen machine again too soon after a switch, which is capped at roughly once a week, mainly to stop a licence being passed around rapidly between many different computers.
Beta licences don't currently expire on their own. If that ever changes for your account, LMX will tell you the date clearly, well before it matters.
Nothing. LMX only checks your licence when it starts up, never while it's running. It also keeps working offline for a while after its last successful check (currently about a month) before it needs to reconnect.
In the final stretch before that offline window runs out, LMX shows a friendly heads-up when it opens, but keeps running normally. If the window fully runs out, it will ask you to reconnect briefly or enter a new offline code. The very first time that happens, you can still choose "Continue anyway" and keep working.
